What's the difference between coaching and Psychotherapy?
At Bay Area Dating Coach, we see coaching and therapy as similar yet distinct services.
Dating coaching focuses on setting and achieving concrete goals. Like an athletic coach, a dating coach helps a client take their skills to the next level. Our coaches utilize deep listening, challenging questions, honest feedback, role-playing, skill-building exercises, and homework assignments to help clients make steady progress towards their goals.
Dating therapy provides a safe space for clients to uncover and heal deeper emotional issues. While therapy uses many of the action-oriented approaches seen in coaching, it also attends to the emotions, past experiences, and mental health issues that may be blocking dating success.
In addition, while dating therapy always takes place at one of our offices, dating coaching can take place in less conventional settings. Some of our "out of the box" services take place at social events (Field Coaching), shopping centers (Image Coaching), by email (Online Dating Concierge), restaurants (Mock Dates), or via video chat (remote coaching).
how do i know whether coaching or therapy is right for me?
Read Our Approach to learn about the 4 Keys to Dating Success and determine which areas you struggle with most. As you'll see, our coaching services address Dating Strategy and Dating Skills and our therapy services address Dating Confidence and Dating Wisdom.
If you would like to work on all areas of dating, we suggest working with a therapist. As described above, therapy can include both action- and insight-oriented approaches. If you are interested in our specialty coaching services (e.g. Field Coaching or Online Dating Concierge), you are welcome to pursue coaching and therapy concurrently.
If you still have questions about which service is right for you, please feel free to contact us.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require at least 48 hours notice when cancelling or rescheduling an appointment. If less than 48 hours notice is provided, you will be charged for the session regardless of the reason for the late cancellation.
What are your fees?
how frequently will i meet with a coach or therapist?
We highly recommend meeting with your coach or therapist on a weekly basis, and in fact some of our associates require clients to attend sessions at least weekly. Some clients attend sessions on a bi-weekly or as-needed basis due to time and financial restraints. Please set up a free intake consultation to further discuss your needs and be matched with an appropriate coach or therapist.
how long will it take to see results?
As you can imagine, this answer varies based on individual needs. We recommend committing to at least 12 sessions to give the process a fair chance. Some of our clients reach their goals within that period of time -- others need months or even years to effect the long-lasting change they desire. Consider what you are willing and able to commit to this process and feel free to further discuss with an intake consultant or your coach or therapist at your first session.
Do you take insurance?
In the case of coaching, insurance never provides reimbursement. In the case of psychotherapy, we do not belong to any insurance panels, however we are happy to provide a Superbill on a monthly basis for you to submit for out-of-network reimbursement. Check with your insurance plan to determine eligibility for out-of-network coverage. Please note that in order to receive a Superbill, we will need to assign you a mental health diagnosis.
Some of our psychotherapy clients also obtain reimbursement from their HSA or FSA accounts using automatically generated monthly statements that indicate the use of psychotherapy services.
